Can someone correct me if I'm wrong but aren't there always a bunch of FA at the camps? Does it matter if they come from NS, NB, Qc, or even from Man, or Sask? If the quality of FA is improved by grabbing a few from out west, is that wrong?
And if the intensity of the camp is increased because of it, is that a bad thing?
Anyone who complains about a team bringing in FA from anywhere should be banned from messageboards. Now if someone actually starts posting that they are major junior quality and starts posting they they are shoe-ins, they should be banned too. Bringing in quality FA is good for a preseason camp. Raises the "competition" bar.

There is nothing worse than "not trying" and the Wildcats are certainly trying to find a few gems in the Jr A leagues. There are many star players out there that aren't playing Major Jr for any number of reasons. I applaud the Wildcats for not taking the summer off and beating the bushes to see what they might be able to find. Who cares if they find nothing ... they are working hard and thinking outside of the box. looks like it was in reference to me.....or is my density still there...a$$hole Fuck you're slow ... My first comment was directed at you ... and I quoted you ... my second comment was directed at everyone regarding The Cats using the paper to create buzz ... and you somehow took offense to it as if it was directed at you. Why am I explaining myself to a moron ? ...

If a team gets quality FA's, usually they can get guys that make the team...normally for toughness and physical play...I think 2-3 of these guys will probably make it based on the WC needs(4th line bangers and scrappers) and the style of those players.

Personally I agree with your comment that every year most teams bring in a couple of Free Agents and your right that it is actually a positive thing and by no means hurts the team. But as a visiting Poster, I am questioning the amount of time and resourses that are being expended in order to bring in these guy from out West. Now I know that the Irvings have big pockets and the extra 10 - 20K doesn't mean too much to him. But I think your GM's time would be much better spent trying to bring in another top line scorer and doing everything possible to ensure that players like Bernier, Bourque and Bartulis will actually return. In my opinion to compete in the Memorial Cup a team needs two solid lines consisting of at least 2 or 3 elite players, 1 offensive defensemen, 1 big defensive defensemen, 2 other reliable defensemen and a proven top goalie. Bringing in all of these Free Agents will provide depth and character to your team which may help you win games during the year but I don't see any of these players helping you when the Memorial Cup starts. Your Defense looks very good and deep and your goaltending should be good enough (although I don't think Blanchard will win you any games like Ottawa's did last year) but right now I don't see you having the two scoring lines needed. And to be competitive, even if Bernier & Bourque play and Karsums is healthy I still think you need another 30 - 40 goal player.

Please let me clarify my initial entry. The point I was making is the apparent lack of quality in the FA's that are being signed to come to the camp. The Moncton organization deserves better and with the Memorial Cup, the quality of the FA's should be higher. Bring in the max # of FA's but, we can do better than what we are attracting. This is the area of contention. If you don't think that we can do better, than we are selling ourselves short.

How do you know they aren't spending resources in guaranteeing Bernier, Bourque, Saunders, Yandle ... etc ... they already got Bartulis and he has committed to returning. We have a hockey staff that consists of Nolan, Flynn, Power, Lacroix, "Consultant" Therrien ... Head Scout Nevin and his entire scouting staff. Do you think they are all working on just one thing at a time ? ... or do you think that maybe they have given each guy a specific assignment to work on ... along with other duties ?

You can only trade for those high quality players you mentioned during the trade period. Maybe Nolan has those trades set up but can't announce them until the trade window is open.

If Bernier Bourque are here and Karsums is healthy the WC will have a supercharged offense...that means that Graham Pineault and Goulet are the 2nd line. Both Graham and Pineault should be "another 30 - 40 goal player" and Goulet should score 25 on a scoring line and add solid defensive play and corner work. Graham was on a 34 goal pace before breaking his leg, Pineault scored 26 in 61 games...Goulet had 22 playing half the season on the checking line. That being said, I don't see Bernier there. As far as Nolan working on Bourque Graham and Saunders, I'm sure he is/has done that, but at the end of the day it depends on the NHL team and where they see each player in their plans.

The conference and league should be happy that Moncton is bringing in these FA.
Just think, when they cut these 19 yr olds its a good chance for an expansion team or Bathurst to pick them up.

Steve just wondering how all of a sudden you are certain that Bartulis is 100% confirmed to come as it was only a week ago he was unsure, and on July 4 your own post said that his return was still up in the air and I haven't seen any posts to indicate that now he will be returning for sure. That being said I think he probably will be.
On the reverse I think Bernier is gone, Bourque's status is out of Moncton's hands as Washington will decide and with Yandle depends on if he can get into university. All three are key members of this team and will be greatly missed if anyone of them don't show up.
And recuriting these free agents is not a 10 minute job. It takes time and work to research these players, convince them to play in Moncton and a make arrangements to bring in these guys. In my opinion although these players add depth and will help during the season, I don't see any of them having an impact during the Memorial Cup tournement. And since Moncton is already guaranteed to be in the Memorial Cup I don't see why you aren't focussing all your resources on preparing for that. If I were a Moncton fan I would rather let at least one or two of my younger guys play on the third and fourth line rather then fill the team up with players who won't be returning next year.

They are not on the 55 man list so they would not go on waivers. From the sounds of it they are coming here for a shot at the Memorial Cup, they may go home instead of playing for a cellar dwellar.
