We are in great shape next year. With the experience all these young guys got this year, along with the 7 playoff games under their belt .. they should be even better next year. My guess for 20 year olds would be Mangan, Marquardt and Lincourt. There's a chance that Marquardt could go pro, but honestly I don't see that happening. He still has a lot of work to do to get to the next level. Our starting goalie will be Riopel and he got lots of work and experience in this year, playing 35 games. I can't remember the last time we had a 19 year old goalie here and a rookie goalie here and they split the games. I am also excited to see what the "L Line" will do next year and the next year after even. They were by far our one of our best lines, well most consistent. Yes, the season ended maybe too soon, but the future looks bright. So you're going for the cup next year Ummm...isn't that why they play the season.

Just for shiggles i'm going to narrow it down to the most interesting players for an aspiring team....I didn't include players that have "pro" written beside them. Defense Mathieu Labrie Maxime Noreau Forward Alex Picard-Hooper Dean Ouellet Nic Blanchard Thomas Svoboda Bryce Swan Eric Castonguay Brett Morrison Francis Pare Jerome Samson Goal J-C Blanchard Ryan Mior?(if he can bounce back from his poor playoff performance) Gong ... JC Blanchard and Samson are unavailable to us ... and if we wanted an average 20 yr old goaltender then we might as well keep Sniderman ... cross off Mior. Bathurst only has 3 guys that will be 20's next year ... so getting Labrie from them would be impossible unless you paid foolishly for him ... which is not the smartest thing to do in a rebuilding year ... and Bathurst isn't great on D and so they need him to log alot of minutes. Any high-end 20 yr old will be costly and our assets are better spent on long term players. Same goes for Noreau ... too pricey and pointless unless we are contending. I see no point to adding a 20 yr old forward as we have several options already at no cost ... Marquardt, Lincourt, Morehouse, Mangan ... we aren't a contender and so a high end guy is not needed. If we are going to add a 20 yr old player in favour of some of the options we currently own then I see it being a dman ... but not at any foolish cost. Andricopoulous may be the best option from Quebec ... but not if he has an attitude problem ... I don't know if he does or doesn't ... I had originally thought that was why Roy had announced he was cuttung a few guys loose. If we could add Danis-Papin or a 19 yr old Euro Dman (puck mover) then maybe we don't need to add another 20 yr old Dman.

I didn't mean for the Cats specifically,I just meant for any team in the league.....I don't see the Cats as being an aspiring team next year Other than that I agree with your post.

Steve didnt we also draft jimmy hayes as well... heard he was like 6"4 he would add nice size if they could get him to report to moncton? The defenseman I would really like to see us push hard for is Tommy Cross - rated as a potential first round pick in this year's NHL draft, offensive d-man with decent size, I have visions of another Yandle dancing in my head. He will be 18 next season, and isn't academically eligible to play NCAA until 2008/09 ... which means his choices for next year are pretty much prep school, US Junior, or the Q - I am hopeful that we can lure him. Jimmy Hayes is a forward, would be great to add him as well - he is projected to go very high in the 2008 NHL draft ... also an 18 year old next year, who isn't yet eligible to play NCAA if I am not mistaken ... so again, we may get lucky and land him. If we get one or the other I would be very happy, both I would be ecstatic ... our other US guys I would count out ... Danis-Pepin is going to be a junior at Maine and will be playing big minutes, Sill would have reported at Xmas after he got the boot from Maine if he was at all interested, and Strait I believe will be 20 next season ... not sure about that Heffernan kid, big centre if I recall, haven't heard much about him since we picked him - I don't think he is as blue chip as the others ...

My understanding is that Cross has a verbal committment to BU for 2008-09 ... not sure what Hayes' status is, but he will only be 18 in the fall - I think both are entering their senior year of high school.

not sure if you guys have been following the Beavers vs. Capitals series (caps won last night 7-1,Beaver's season finished)...but what about Brad Smith--don't we have him on our dark long list?!
2006-2007 Season Stats
Team Player GP G A PTS PTSPG SHG ENG PPG GPG PIMS PIMPG Brad Smith 42 16 24 40 0.95 0 0 6 0.38 52 1.24
he appeared to have improved (in this league at least) since the first couple of games we saw of him playing with the Caps against the Beavers.
Doesn't mean much-->be he was noticeably bigger than most of his counterparts on the Caps team (they were mostly little runts--but quick!!)

I would think Smith is a very long shot ... he would be a 19 year old rookie next season ... the only way he is on the team is if he has a monster camp and manages to beat one or more of our returning forwards out of a roster spot...

If he wanted to be a fighter ... he could have a spot ... because he can take a 4th line shift.
