I wonder just how many of the what are considered elite players can actually qualify academically for the NCAA route? They still have to graduate high school and pass their SAT's before they can play college hockey. Ask Bourque or Yandle if everyone is suited to college life.

does anyone know if the ncaa has different rules for the draft compared to qmjhl NCAA doesn't have a draft, schools recruit players. There are a number of VERY strict rules in effect which govern what the schools can offer a player, and the NCAA spends millions annually on enforcement (all sports, not just hockey). The CHL could not afford to put in place the enforcement structure that the NCAA has... and if you read the Q rule book, many of the things that are currently allegedly occurring are specifically prohibited by the rules (ie large scholarships, perks for players) - there is just no enforcement mechanism.

Just my opinion... but I don't think a system like that would work Chootoi. If someone doesn't want to go to a team like Saint John... and then they get a couple of picks in return... what happens when the players they draft with those picks don't want to go either? More picks? Picks are no good if no one will report! You might end up with a system where all the players decide to go to the powerhouse teams... and the weak ones would stay weak. I agree the current system is not perfect, and Espo this year is an example of that. But it's what we work with now. Don't forget that the Cats ended up getting Yandle after he wouldn't report to the team that drafted him. They only gave up a 5th round pick to get him when he didn't want to go to Gatineau. The draw of the memorial cup and the opportunity to play under Nolan convinced him to come. Picks can be traded for players. If Saint John got 2 first round picks from Quebec, they made not want them as much as they want players. Trade the picks for players.

What needs to happen is for the owners to get together and all agree to say fuck you to the players and the parents that makes these stupid decisions for them.............make it a "you play for me, or you don't play at all" deal, and within a couple years, this crap wouldn't be happening. this is what Sawyer did to Bathurst a couple years ago........I would have told him to sit home and enjoy midget. and then the Q turns into the MJAHL cause all the top talent goes to the NCAA. it really is a tough problem to solve. All the top talent?? That wouldn't be an exaggeration would it? It is only a problem with respect to some kids. The league will lose a few kids if it plays hardball. The league loses a few kids anyways. Look at the Vancouver Giants. They picked Dave Bertram with a first round pick and he went the NCAA route. The WHL hasn't folded because of it.

yes it is a problem with some kids , but it seems to be the same teams that we have a problem with and the league turns a blind eye because it is in there own backyard . if some of these stunts would be pulled of by a maritime team or maine there would be hell to pay!!!!!

Actually, Halifax did it a couple of times. That's what makes me laugh when Tipper LeBlanc complains about it. He was as guilty of it when he was with the Moose.

Thats called rebuilding. They have won two championships ... two more than us ... I'd say they know what they are doing.

Riki is not "taking a dive" - they are rebuilding. What they are doing is a perfectly legal and legit way to build a team. They were going nowhere this season, so they opted to trade all available veterans for good prospects and or picks.
Most teams dont have the luxury of going all or nothing like Riki does because they don't have as good a fan base. Riki can be down right horrid for 2 years and still draw a good crowd, try that in Bathurst and the team is on the verge of moving...
And as for the NCAA games you are all upset about, there is a little saying about those in glass houses not throwing stones... do you really think Yandle is in Moncton because he thought it would be a nicer place to live than Chicoutimi, Saint John or Gatineau? Money talks...

take a dive to get a better draft pick Rimouski was probably gonna miss the playoffs anyways even if they kept all their players. By having an extremely large amount of 19 yr olds last year, they knew it was coming. They would have sucked for the next 3 or 4 years if they kept all their 19 and 20's this year just to make the playoffs and then get eliminated in the 1st round. And they're not even guaranteed the first overall pick by finishing last in the league.
