From the Times and Transcript:
"The Wildcats will lose six players to NHL camps over the next few days. The others are forwards Stephane Goulet (Edmonton Oilers), Bruce Graham (New York Rangers), Martins Karsums (Boston Bruins), Adam Pineault (Columbus Blue Jackets) and Matt Marquardt (Ottawa Senators).
Karsums isn't ready for practice yet following off-season ankle surgery, but Boston still wants him to report to camp.
Marquardt was passed over in both the Ontario Hockey League draft and NHL draft. He signed with Moncton as a free agent and then received a free-agent offer to attend NHL camp with Ottawa.
Wildcats defenceman Oskars Bartulis was a fourth-round pick of the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2005 NHL draft. He attended their rookie camp, but won't be returning for main camp.
The Wildcats have released goaltender Nicola Riopel, a first-round pick in the 2005 QMJHL draft. There are 31 players remaining in camp - two goaltenders, 12 defencemen and 17 forwards."

Hmmm.... one of the reporters I was talking with today stated that after the 3 Saturday cuts there were 27 players remaining. I see from the post above that Billy has 28... I wonder if another player got dropped within the last 24 hours or so. Food for thought, I guess.

I was told that Gardiner had already been cut, maybe he's still at camp practicing, but from what I heard, he wasn't part of the team for this year.

Cutting Defense on this team is much harder then forwards. All the Defense left are much stronger then the Offense.

According to today's TT article, the roster is still at 28, so Billy's list is correct.

If they are keeping 7-8 d-men and 14 forwards, I think the last cuts will be Gardiner and Ouskun on defense(Emanuele is better than both and the other 7 are locks), keep 8 at keast until Adam returns. Up front, Smith and Morehouse would have to go unless they keep 15...
Blanchard-Blouin
Yandle-Belanger Bartulis-Welton MacDonald-Demers
Emanuele Adam(inj)
Goulet-Graham-Karsums(inj?) Marchand-Girard-Pineault Marquardt-Gaudet-Samson Chabot-Hepditch-Spencer
Moore Eagles

I could also see starting Marquardt on the 2nd line ahead of Girard, he is bigger and has better hands around the net, he could score 25 or more on a scoring line.

I haven't seen any of the pre-season games, but from what I have heard about Marquardt (big, good hands, poor skater) it sounds as though he would be a poor fit on the third line due to his immobility, and probably a waste on the 4th line since he appears to have scoring talent. Playing him on a second line would seem to make sense...
