According to CKRS 950, a Quebec radio station I believe, Brad Marchand would be on his way to Halifax in exchange for O'Connor and the Mooseheads' 1st round draft pick.
And even more importantly, apparently Alexandre Picard-Hooper, from the Baie-Comeau Drakkar, is close to being on his way to Moncton.
Now, I have nothing to say against the kid's talent. He would be a good upgrade, but he will be 20 next year. I just can't see this happening unless it's a dirt cheap deal, and even at that, I can't see him reporting as a 20 year old.
Thoughts?

Really not a big fan of that deal. I saw the same thing and it was rumoured for our 1st round pick. I'd rather keep the pick and get some youth. We seem pretty solid up the middle right now. Not that Hooper wouldn't help but why would we get him. I don't think it is a smart move. Plus we already have a huge log jam up the middle. Unless there are deals and FA's already set for the draft. Come on June.2.

Thoughts? if true it's likely the standard "20 yo who is unlikely to return" type of deal where we would give a pick or prospect for his rights, then if he reports after the dumptruck full of cash is left on his front lawn, we give alot more later. as far as 20's go though, he'll be one of the best if he's back. wasn't there alot of talk of us acquiring him at the deadline last year? by last i mean 05-06. as far as marchand goes... good for him getting to play in his hometown (again, if true). voracek/marchand/macmillan would absolutely destroy teams on the PP, let alone 5-on-5. i would not be looking forward to playing against that line 8-10 times next season. yikes.

Marchand is going nowhere until midseason for sure. Val d'or could get more at midseason, that deal makes no sense. I heard Picard-Hooper wanted a change of scenery...if he ends up in Moncton, it won't be with the Cats.

Although I slightly disagree with your comment on the Marchand trade, I do agree about Picard-Hooper. I could see Val-d'Or wanting an earlier draft pick this year, not next. Halifax would be a good one and could permit Val-d'Or to get a player they have their eyes on + a late 1st rounder (do they still have their pick?). They might accept getting a less talented player for a draft pick right away. As for Picard-Hooper, no way I see this happening, specially for the Wildcats' 1st round pick. He'll be one of the best 20 year olds in the league, but I doubt that happens in Moncton. That being said, it wouldn't surprise me much to see him at the Université de Moncton next year, playing for the Aigles Bleus. Didn't he win the top scolastic player in the league? And I'm sure UdeM wants to win next years' championship bad after losing the last one.

By keeping him for 40 games, he helps in the standings and the box office...and gets you more in a buyers market.

Picard-Hooper could be just a part of the puzzle if the cats are trying to get a couple of the NCAA boys to come to camp or maybe a free agent or two, it would be a lot easier if they had a known centre like him. They brought in Dupuis two years ago and look what he did. They kept Gaudet this year as a 20yo, and Picard-Hooper would be quite an upgrade from Mangan as a 20 if the price was right. Everyone knows they need a little more size and skill down the centre after this years playoffs.

Do you honestly think Jimmy Hayes even knows who Alexandre Picard-Hooper is?

Do you think Jimmy Hayes will actually come to the Q without checking who he might be playing with, and Picard_Hooper is not very hard to find in the scoring stats of the Q

They have plenty of skill in Cameron Labelle and Mangan...and Hooper is 5'10" and about 175lbs, how does that add size?

on the halifax deal i would say Val would win in the trade if they do it b4 the draft because if you keep him until X-mas and then he get injured what happend to the trade and what type of player do they get at the draft .

From the CB boards: Jason Swit off to PEI for Joey Haddad. To be made official on June.1. Is it legal to announce it before the deadline like that?? www.capebretonpost.com/index.cfm?sid=31455&sc=146I want to throw this out there too. What would it take to get Grant from Saint John? Would Marqhardt and Goyens for Grant do it? saint John needs 20's and Marqhardt would be a good step forward. (Assuming he comes back) We should try to maximize some of the return and I feel Grant would be one of the best options for us. That is if he is available.

What are the odds that Marchand suffers a very serious injury in half a season of hockey? Not very big.

Grant will only be 18 next year, I can't see them being crazy enough to let him go for Marquardt plus a throw in. He'll be a 2nd round NHL pick in June.
