I believe that Nolan and co did not want to have lingering rumours about Marchand and desided to tell him right away. Myabe CB is doing it differenrtly or maybe it is really a 1st.

I am very surprised that one of A Mac, Welton or Marqhardt weren't moved. Me too. Which leads me to believe our good start made Torchetti VERY hesitant. Good start or not, we do not have the talent or depth to go deep in playoffs and a good coach has to see past that. Im sure he has worked damn hard to get them competing at this level but with all the ups and downs and inconsistencies he has to know he doesnt have the team to compete for the title. I fail to believe quality players like MacDonald, Welton, Marquardt couldnt fetch some sort of quality young player return. Picks are gambles and I may have hesitated to trade for that but if a quality young guy could have been had, and should have been able to been had, then you have to make that trade, good start or not.

Wow we officially have the pussiest team in the league now.
Good return tho......not too many d-men see regular ice as a 16 year old....i'd say Barberio is close to Sauve in terms of skill and potential...finally we've gotten a bit younger on D.....would've liked to see one of our 20's gone.

I think that Nolan's comment about not rebuilding but reloading is more appropriate. If you look at the multi year devastation of Rim and PEI and having good quality rookies that grow up expecting to be beat and not shaking that. It's probably better not to sell all the old guys and for them to lead the next Pres Cup winners.

I'd prefer Brannon over a 1st...mostly because of his age...he'd fit more into the 1989's already here than a 1991 or 1990. Here is my question... When we traded for Bourdon and only gave up Girard, Adam and draft picks we already knew the more to come later... (Marchand, Samson etc) So if there is in fact more coming at the draft (example returning the first for Brannon or others) then why isnt there some knowledge of it. I know the league doesnt announce the later details but we still knew what would happen with us last year so why is it so uncertain now? IMO if that pick doesnt go back for an established player we lost this trade. Barberio is good no doubt about it, but as many have posted, its the uncertainty factor in development, maybe he is already close to as good as he gets etc, while we knew Bourdon was the real deal.. Tough call. Val D'Or got their knuckles rapped last year for releasing those details ... it almost killed the deal ... its not allowed. THose details will come out in time ... be patient ... they cannot come from a press release from either team though.

I was also in the "hoping boat" for some toughness to be added.. It didnt even have to be a goon, just a heavy hitter with good size that plays physical all the time not "a la when I feel like it Marquardt" and fought occasionally

Marquardt is not here to fight. I'll agree that he needs to use his big frame more, but to expect him to drop the mitts and fight is pure stupidity. Did you expect Steve Bernier to fight all the time?

They didnt even trade one old guy so that comment doesnt apply. They stood fairly pat and we'll see how it pans out. Im sure we will always be fairly competitive cause like most posters say Irving has the money and we simply fill holes with FA a la Marquardt, (which I dont mind) but I for one would like to seen us actually have good young Q team (we have some potential talent dont get me wrong) and not half Q, half dropped FA's from OHL and WHL. Adding a couple young forwards that could develop into scorers for our older guys now would have been nice.

Did you expect Steve Bernier to fight all the time? You read me wrong or I posted it wrong, I was strictly referring to Marquardt hitting more and using his large frame, in no way did I mean he should fight, my mistake I guess. I meant I was hoping to get a new guy who hit all the time heavy and was physcial all the time and fought once in a while. The only similarity or comparison I was using Marquardt for was the physical play (hitting).

Just remember everyone, it's still possible that a forward or toughness will be added through the free agency route.

The Cats have proven they understand the FA game, and I'm quite confident that by next season we will have found another impact player who was thinking of going the NCAA route (like MacDonald), or 1-2 of our American players will report.
