He has made me so made the past several games coughing up the puck that I would take 20 hockey pucks for him. Would you rather have Ouskun, Campbell, Tolles, Emanuele, Pianosi, Herr lugging the puck out of our end ... controlling the puck along the blueline during the PP ? The reason why you see Welton make mistakes that irritate you is because he is a guy that handles the puck alot ... he is going to make mistakes with that much icetime and puck handling .... where guys like Ouskun (who makes more mistakes on a nightly basis) and Tolles (how many times has he iced teh puck trying to gain the redline ?) are not capable of handling the puck in the way Welton does. This team would be nowhere without the contribution of MacDonald and Welton ... and I wouldn't place one above the other ... they both make mistakes but they both also make it happen for us on the ice. Bourdon is also a huge contributor but he hasn't played enough games for us to make a claim on being a big part of what has us in the top 3 of the Q. If we have to rely on Ouskun and the other less expereinced guys to get that puck out of our end and initiate a rush ... we'd be in the bottom 1/3 of the league. Its sad that you don't realize how valuable Welton is to this team. Lets see: Bourdon +17, MacDonald +14, Emmanuele +1, Campbell -2, Pianosi -3 Welton -4 Tolles -5, and Ouskun -8. That seems to make him 5th of 8 defencemen in plus minus. He makes too many mistakes carrying the puck up ice. If he wants to be an offensive defenceman than be offensive from center ice into the opposition net or even better from their red line in but take care of getting the puck out of our end safely first.

If Welton had played with Bourdon for the 5 weeks he was here, he'd probably be over +10 also. Before that MacDonald was a - also I believe.

So that really does not mean anything. Bourdon takes care of defence first then attacks Welton does not most of the time. Maybe if he came straight out with the puck instead of dipsy-doodling around in our end waiting for the forechecking opponent to catch him, lift his stick, steal the puck and put it in our net he would be better off.

He doesn't dipsy doodle any more than MacDonald. If you have 6 "off the glass" defensemen, you won win many games in the Q.
