Holy Crap. I don't rally like this trade. I thought Bart would be here til at least X mas. I think he would hav been worth more then.

to MON: 2006 Euro Pick (34th) 2nd rd. pick in 2007 7th rd. pick in 2007 to CB: Oskars Bartulis That's a pretty good deal for both teams. The Cats are strong on defense and need to rettool the depth chart. If they can get a 1988 or 1989 d-man plus the 2007 2nd rounder, that accelerates the rebuilding.

Tough to say, the market on euros is always pretty fickle ... in Bart's case we would have needed him to have a big first half (he has had slow starts both seasons in the Q and came on in the second half), and then hope that a contender both has a euro opening and needs help on defense. A 2nd and a 7th is a pretty good return, plus a decent euro pick. If our scouts deliver in the next couple of hours, we could easily find a euro as good as Bart for next year with the 34 pick, and pick up a a couple of picks to help the rebuilding process.

This trade is potentially a very good deal for the Wildcats. It will all depend on how those picks are used, especially the Euro pick.

If they can get a good 1988 or 1989 d-man, then they gain a lot by the trade. They can really use the 2nd rounder. If you trade bartulis at midseason, you end up short 1 Euro for half the year...or just have a low end "filler".

I'd say the cats won on this deal big time.

Like I said earlier, it will depend on the players picked, especially the Euro. If they take a Karsums-type player then we definitely are the winner. On the other hand, if they pick a Manavian.....

The more I think about it, the more I like this deal ... best case, we upgrade our euro and pick up a 2nd and a 7th - worst case, our euro doesn't show or is a flop, in a season in which we are going nowhere anyways, and we land a 2nd and a 7th.
With our relatively good history at landing euros, seems like a good risk to me - not much downside.
