If SJ were to sign Bernier he couldn't go play there could he?
They have him ranked as their top prospect so I doubt they let him go

Also Sid the Kid's agent says that he will definitely play in Rimouski this winter and that the WHA is not part of his plans. just remeber the Owner of the Toronto Toros also owns the Halifax Icebreakers (Isn't that a conflict of interests?) so Sidney's rights can go to Halifax easily , this may persuade him to jump ship

Then again, I dont see much good reasons to bernier to go there, he will certainly not be on the first line. And if he is , that means that theres not that much talent there.... so hes much better here. But we will see if he thinks like that. playing first line in the Q vs playing 3rd line in the pros. Just because he isn't playing 1st line in the WHA, it doesn't mean that his development is better served by being in Moncton. He could/will learn more on a 3rd line in the pros thangoing through the motions on a first line in the Q. And he will be making more money. And his mommy and daddy can get season tickets to watch him play. And he doesn't have to play "Larue hockey". His development will be faster in the WHA, unless he is in the stands for most games. It's the crap that might come from the organization or lack of it of the team offices that should be the biggest concern.

Worst case scenario for Steve is that he signs with the WHA. He gets paid good money for a couple of weeks and the league folds/goes bankrupt. Steve returns to Moncton with a new car and money in his pocket.
Worst case scenario for the fans. The league makes a go of it and plays a full season.

I think the league will fold by Christmas. There may be interest for a few weeks, much like senior A hockey in Moncton 10 or 11 years ago, people will be curious. Even if these junior players do not show at start of Q season they will be here eventually. Moncton should bring in some FA that would be stronger than 16/17 year olds to strengthen their team until the drafted players return from WHA camps or their season ends in December, then cut the FA loose. (unless they are really good)

They have him ranked as their top prospect so I doubt they let him go San Jose drafted him and didn't sign him to anything .... now Quebec has drafted him and hasn't signed him to anything. Why would the NHL have any say on where he can and can't play? Do they have more legal rights than the WHA ? They need to sign him to a contract to have any say in his decision. And ... that may spark a few contracts being offered ... for guys like Bernier and Crawford.

"its been stated Bernier doesn't enjoy playing for Larue - perfect opportunity for him to leave and not quit his team. " Here we go again!Assumptions! I'm not assuming anything. People before me have said Bernier didn't like playing for Larue, how the hell is that assuming? And this more than likely wouldn't be the first time a player doesn't like playing for a certain coach. If I was assuming something then I'd at least make up something worthy of the tabloids... If the NHL and NHLPA come to an agreement before September 15, then I can see a lot of the amateur players selected by the WHA get signed to contracts, at least the top end prospects.

Also interesting to see no coverage of this by the T&T (well, that I could see online). You're right. I read the sports section of the T&T paper this morning and there was not one mention of any of this in it. You would think there would have been, on top of it being a big event in the hockey world, some Wildcats were drafted.
