well if crawford is not the Number 1 goalie , i dont see why he would go there.... but since bernier was taken in first round ... we might think that quebec asked him before if he would report.

Karl Gagne was taken in the 6th round by the "Founders' franchise (from Dallas)".
Martin Karsums was taken in the 17th round also by Quebec.

13th roudn by Dallas for Pineault
what do you guys think are the odds some of those players will go play in the WHA?
i think pineault might go there. and possibly bernier also.... teh training camp starts before them though... so they might decide to be here instead, i dont know.
anyways the WHA will die after one season.. they all picked NHL players and good young players that wont be there when the NHL starts again

I'm undecided if any of the junior players will actually go play in the WHA...it's just such a joke. But then again the money might lure them.

Here's a short media article on Bernier regarding the WHA Amateur Draft. He's quoted of saying that he was happy of being selected. It also says that he hasn't ruled out the WHA for this season. www.cyberpresse.ca/sports/article/2,338,0,072004,738353.shtml P.S. The article is in French.

I knew this was going to happen. The WHA is not going to hurt the NHL it is going to hurt Junior. Why not go make some cash for a couple years in a pro league at 18. Sign for a short term two to three years and go NHL after the contract is up.
How long do you think the WHA will survive?

In another article, Nordiks GM Martin Madden says that he does not want to hurt junior hockey and that he realises its importance.
Also Sid the Kid's agent says that he will definitely play in Rimouski this winter and that the WHA is not part of his plans.
I still believe that the WHA teams will be mostly made up of AHL players who are close to the NHL but don't see their day coming. Junior players will not be the major part of their player contingent. The team owners will want to put a competitive team on the ice and it's not by assembling a team of 18 or 19-year olds (no matter how good they are) to play against men who are 25-30 yo.
I feel this draft might push some NHL teams into signing some of their drafted players early and not wait until the 2-year period is almost over, especially in the case of high draft picks.

Myself I'm a bit worried that Bernier _could_ jump to the WHA if it gets off the ground. For a few reasons, :
its been stated Bernier doesn't enjoy playing for Larue - perfect opportunity for him to leave and not quit his team.
He would be close to home.
It would give him a chance to compete at a higher level than junior.
Now, I don't know how much of a chance Bernier would have to make the team, but he was their first amateur pick so they believe he could be an impact player in the league.
It'll be interesting to see. Also interesting to see no coverage of this by the T&T (well, that I could see online).

Then again, I dont see much good reasons to bernier to go there, he will certainly not be on the first line. And if he is , that means that theres not that much talent there.... so hes much better here. But we will see if he thinks like that.
