Good for him. I think he plays a big role with the Cats this year. i thought he looked good when he played last season. Solid defensively and you could see him get a little more confidence in his offensive side too.

I caught quite a bit of the Chowder Cup & can tell you he has definitely improved over the summer. His skating in particular. Seems really ready for camp.

I thought the same thing so I went and looked at the roster and saw that besides Tolles, Mike Babiak is from Mississauga Ont and Alex Dupuis is from Thunder Bay Ont. Not sure if they have residence here now or not.

Chowder Cup isn't an official team Atlantic - most teams are club or pickup teams, players can come from anywhere with no residency requirements ... as for the two Ontario goalies, don't be surprised if this is an advance look at a couple of guys who may be in a Q or MJAHL camp in the next few weeks fighting for a job - maybe as the Cats backup?

Not sure if they have residence here now or not. I think the concern is that if Tolles is American as is Watson, then we have a problem with acquiring more than 2 per team and what does that do for other Americans that we have heard have showed an interest? Watson I'm cheering for, now Tolles is playing much better over the summer, but I certainly would have a hard time turning away the next Yandle? Decisions? There could be a hard cut here shortly. I guess from all the names we have heard there is definitely going to other hard cuts as well.

I did not think there was a limit to the number of Americans that you can have on your team. Is that what you mean? We do have a lot of US players who are on the bubble for this season and I do agree there will be very hard decisions to be made this trainning camp as opposed to last season. Keep Tolles (who we got as an FA) get rid of Goyens (who we gave up two picks for) bring in more FA d men which I have heard there are going to be a lot of D men in camp. Not to mention what the hell do we do if Hayes, Samuels Thomas and Macausland decide to come with the plethera of forwards there will be some very hard decisions to make there also.

If were up to me I would keep Goyens over Tolles however. I think he could be very good with Flynns help. Tolles would have had to improve quite a bit for me to change.

I am not sure about Goyens yet. Tolles to me seemed more solid defensively, a little quicker (if I remember correctly) and seemed to make the smart easy play. I thought his offensive game started to show late in the seson as he got a little more playing time. I know we gave up a couple of picks for Goyens but I am not sold on him. I just saw too many times last year when he either got beat to the puck or just seemed to give up. If he worked on his speed this summer and packed a bit of weight on it would make a differnce for him. He definately has a better offensive upside but too many miscues IMO. I guess we'll see as there is supposed to be a lot of D men in camp this year. Not sure how good but we'll see.

I seem to recall he was touted as a possible solution for your goaltending woes last year in camp - if memory serves, he never did show up for whatever reason .... are you sure he ever made it to your roster, or was he just a camp invite who never showed?
