Marcus Watson will be attending the San Jose Sharks Development Camp starting next Monday. The camp which will feature the Sharks top prospects will be held in San Jose from July 9 to 14. Marcus came as a free agent in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and played 6 games last year for the Moncton Wildcats registering one assist. During the 2005-06 season, the 6’01 - 175 lbs winger played for the U 16 Santa Clara Blackhawks where he contributed 150 goals and 152 assists. The development camp is used to evaluate the Sharks’ prospects. Some of those players will then make it to the rookie camp prior the official NHL training camp.

I think he was also very high on the +/- for such a few games. I wanted to see more of him to see if he could raise his bar up here. Now we seem to have at least one US player coming and maybe two besides Watson. So what do we do with him if the other two arrive. I got a funny feeling he could really develop into quite a hockey player if given the chance. I would hate to trade him for a song only to have him kicking our asses on another team. I'm sure he only played a few games last year for reasons that maybe someone else knows. I'd love to know.

I remember torch saying something along the line as "the kid is a amazing offensive talent, but unfortunitly he tends to forget he has a net on his side of the rink."
So they worked pretty hard on training him. They were hoping he would stay the majoriety of the summer to train as a pet project. Don't know when he is coming back. Hopeflully the sharks camp will motivate him even more.
the cats training camp may be one of the toughest in recent years.

His +/- was good? I remember he played some of the tougher games from last year as well, the long road trip in Que with the last game against VD. I'm hoping for only one other American and we get to develop him to see what he can do. You got to cheer for the underdog. We knew Yandle was good but who had any idea he was that good.

I don't look at the stats for him. he was never ready to be put in important situations during a game yet. He only really got out there against the other teams 4th line most of the time. so obviosly his +/- wasn't bad or good. Torch demnded his players play a complete game to make it into the lineup. Watson was a pet project to the coaching staff because they know the offensive upside to him. Its just to mold him to a complete player now.

After watching all of the games Marcus Watson played at the Coliseum he reminded me of a former young player by the name of Patrick Yetman who played for the Wild Cats years back. He struck me as one of those rare players who the puck just seemed to want to follow. Given more of an opportunity to play and prove himself, I think he has an ability to be a Patrick Yetman calibre type player. I hope he gets that opportunity. AS A NOTE: should anyone be interested in reading a story (including a review of Yetmans Career] of his achievements since the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles to his current Euro Hockey League team just type in Patrick Yetman or Euro Hockey Net on your server. He has had an amazing Pro career and worth reading about..Cheers!!!

Yetman was a great player here at 20 ... more of a role player at 19 due to team depth ... was overlooked at 17 and 18 due to his size and tore it up in Jr A. But I don't see any similarities between him and Watson ... none whatsoever. Watson may turn out to be a 100 pt guy also ... but he hasn't done anything yet that could compare to any part of Yetman's career here. He has very raw skill and needs to be given some icetime to let us all see what he can do. We just haven't seen that at all yet.

I guess Lincourt is at Chicago Blackhawks camp and Brannon is in Detroits camp as we speak. Lincourt dropped 17lbs and is in top physical shape.

I guess Cameron must've picked up the 17lbs that Lincourt lost.
Back to the topic,it must be a long time since a healthy scratch junior player gets invited to a pro camp......can anybody think of the last time this happened?

Good to see Lincourt working hard, makes training camp decisions even more interesting. Who to keep, who to trade...

I think he is getting the invite simply because he is a local kid in San Jose.

I think he is getting the invite simply because he is a local kid in San Jose. Yes, I suspect he is ... he may be one of the first locally developed kids to make it as far as he has, so I suspect the Sharks are inviting him as much out of a token of support for local minor kockey than anything else. I am not sure about the Yetman comparisons, I only saw him play as a 20 year old, so I don't know what he looked like at 17 and 18 ... but Watson does appear to have certain raw offensive talent ... seems to have a knack for being in the right spot to make things happen offensively. He is going to be in tough to make the team IMO - we are in a logjam at forward, and I am really surprised nothing was done to try and resolve some of this in the offseason. Right now I see him around 15 or 16 on our depth chart - so the pressure is on for him to have a big camp. The following guys I see as locks up front who will almost certainly be on the team: Cameron, Labelle, Lessard, Brannon, Bezak, Brown and Sill. Seven guys right there ... then figure two if not three of Morehouse, Mangan, Marquardt and Lincourt are going to be on the team. If any of Samuels-Thomas, MacAusland or Hayes were to commit they would be locks as well. Eagles is pretty much a lock, although I could see him being trade bait if someone else beats him out of a spot. MacLellan, Lepage, Brenton and Watson are returning vets battling for a spot, along with Lamoureux, Frazee, etc...

I'm definitely going to try and go to the pre-season games (at least the ones held locally)....should be fun watching the guys battle it out.
