I don't think it was size that kept Samson from being drafted. I think it was more his role on a very strong team; you had to watch him play all season to really appreciate his game, how he always did the "little things" well. Had he been on the PP, or played on a team where he was on a scoring line, he would have put up gaudier offensive numbers that may have attracted the attention of more teams.

Don't these team have scouts?
Do you really think that numbers is all it boils down to?
Samson's size is absolutely a factor in why he did not get drafted. He was small and light and will need to bulk up to play his style of game in the pro's. Imagine him along the boards against Chara, Phaneuf etc.
Samson is probably a project player with a big upside when he matures.

Well, almost every player drafted needs to work on strength and conditioning to be ready for the pros. Very few players are physcially ready for the NHL when drafted. Of course teams scout, but I doubt Samson was the focus when watching the Wildcats play. Again, I am saying that you need to see him play more often than someone flashier to "get" what he brings to the table.

No you said you did not think that his size was a factor and I totally disagree with you. Samson had his coming out party with the Cats at the Memorial cup when he was one of the best players on the team in front of a gazillion scouts and a national Tv audience. He plays on the boards and at his current size he will not be successful in that traffic.

What about Samson reminds you of St.Louis?
Their games are not anywhere near each other except they are both wearing skates. St.Louis is all about speed and finding open ice. Samson is about puck control on the boards, blocking passes and shots and keeping the cycle going.
St. Louis finally had his breakout year around 30.
I did not say that Samson may not make the NHL but he is a project player. If he puts on size and strength he may succeed at his style of game. He has shown a scoring touch, he is a tireless worker on the ice, and has good hockey smarts. He is not a blazing skater, he does not have a great shot. He is a good hockey player. He was just handed an opportunity and he strikes me as being the kind of kid who will work hard to take advantage of the opp.
If he was 6'4" 220lbs he would have been drafted very high with his style of game. Anaheim just showed everyone that size still matters.

If the Mem Cup was his "coming out party" in front of a "gazillion scouts" ... why did he get passed over in the next two drafts ?

I don't think he was eligible this year.

I wonder if he'll still go the Montreal camp? I would....but I'd be drunk and laughing like a fool.
