Gotta love this notation ... "Dimitruk, who repeated his sophomore year at Phillips Exeter Academy, will have some time to make his decision." Doesn't really sound like NCAA is right for him ... Thanks for the links ... good stuff.

It also said that Samels-Thomas has shown interest in coming to the Q. Getting all 4 of Brown MacAusland Dmitruk and Samuels-Thomas would add some nice building blocks long term.

I have a feeling alot of the research done on preparing these articles comes from our Maritime messageboards ... the Cats board is actually a link in part of the MacAusland write up. So this guy may be making comments that come from comments that we made ... so take it for what its worth.

I noticed that too, Steve. We should think up something juicy...
As far as the academic requirements for NCAA players go, what are the academic expectations that go along with an athletic scholarship? They appear pretty low for football and basketball, but at the same time you hear of hockey players leaving school due to grades (Pineault?).
From a Canadian standpoint (ie, guys from around here not growing up dreaming of playing for Boston College) I don't see the appeal of going NCAA unless you're 100% committed to taking advantage of the tuition and actually finishing school. Otherwise, you're behind the development curve hockey-wise (compared to players playing in the Q at 16 and 17), with no education to show for it.

Thanks for the links ... good stuff. It goes back to my theory on drafting Americans - since most if not all would prefer to play NCAA, you have to get your scouts to look for guys who are both good hockey players, and poor students - the latter will rule out NCAA sooner or later (worst case we get a shot at them at 19 once they flunk out) ... you could also go for poor character guys likely to get themselves kicked out of school - but they could be trouble on your team as well ... leave that strategy for Bathurst and Drummondville ...

I was talking to a guy from Boston and his son had been approached at the draft by a couple of teams. It was interesting to hear his perspective on the US route as opposed to the Junior hockey route. He was basically saying that there are way too many bad stories floating around and not enough education for parents and players down there. He said they only hear about the negatives and kids who were "screwed over". I know there are always two sides to the story but it is interesting to hear that a lot more players could be interested if they just knew all the facts. Good and bad.
