As I understand it, if Samson plays as a 20 for VD we get VD's first round in 2008. Would that take effect as soon as he plays one game or at this same time next year? That's Marchand and in 2009.

Not knowing much about how to value players relative to draft picks, would any of Brenton, MacLellan, Morehouse, or Lepage bring back a pick earlier than the 7th round? Any guesses as to what Sniderman or Morehouse might bring? I'm going to assume nobody would dress Emmanuele as a 20 yo. Flynn talked about wanting to get a 7-7-7 formula in place so that each year you have 16 returnees. Under this formula, you would have 7 19 year olds, 7 18 year olds, 7 16/17 year olds, plus your three OAs. Currently, we have seven 19 year olds (Eagles, MacLellan, Ouskun, Goyens, Tolles, Lepage), 8 18 year olds (Riopel, Pianosi, Cameron, Labelle, Brannon, Lessard, Brenton, Watson), and one 17 year old (Barberio). When you consider that any FA is likely to be an 18 year old or 19 year old, and that it is a good chance that one of our euros will be 18 or 19, we may be in a situation where we look to deal one or two returning 18 or 19 year olds for a pick in the first 5 rounds - so we can build up the number of 16 and 17 year olds on the team and get closer to Flynn's formula.

I'm not holding my breath on that one, he'll be at the very least playing for Providence in 08/09.
