According to an article in the A-N this morning, discussions are being held this week to come up with a proposal for a meeting with WHL and OHL next month. Apparently the Q brought in 250 plus FAs from those territories last season, compared to about 10 each for the OHL and WHL, who are not happy with the current situation. Current speculation is that teams would agree to limit to 15 the number of FAs brought in each season, and to 5 players signed to cards. Not clear if this would be for the entire season, or at any point in time.

I can guarntee you the shit will hit the fan if a 19 year old on an OHL protected list is not allowed to go play in the Q.

They're MAD we're giving their kids a chance to play?
Fuck I wish these rich old owners would look at the big picture instead of the possibility of a Q team winning the Mem Cup with a few players from outside their "region"
There are 50+ CHL teams. What is the issue with having the BEST players on those 50 teams? To me it's Kelowna or Oshawa saying sorry John Smith you're not good enough to play for us. But forget going to Moncton or Gatineau because we want you to play Jr. A in case we want you again at some point.
If you ask me it's Ontario pissed about us weakening their Jr. A talent pool and nothing else.

Do you have a source for the change to the protected list number? People keep saying it's changed or is going to change, but haven't provided any links to OHL press releases or newspaper articles, except for the Acadie Nouvelle article from 5 months ago that said it might be happening.

I have no problem with the Q's 5 and 15 rule...but what I don't like is if they really go to 75 man protected lists in the OHL. I think 18 19 and 20 year olds should have to pass waivers in their league...then be avalable to teams in other leagues...16 and 17 year olds are still "prospects".

I'd give them the 18's also and have the waivers for 19 and 20's......the Q waivers start at 19 don't they?

Yeah...but I think all 3 leagues should have to waive 18 year olds before sending them down, it's nearly impossible to crack a team as a rookie at 19. If you are in a very deep organsiation, getting waived at 18 still allows a player to have a shot at a decent career if they are in fact Q calibre.
