Well, here we are folks. One week til Draft Day! Yeah, so as of right now we only have 2 pick in Rounds 1-5, Who Cares... I've seen this on alot of other boards and thought I'd give it a try on ours. Who would you like to see the Wildcats select with their 3rd round (39th overall) and 5th round (78th overall) pick? Here are my takes.
3RD ROUND: Michael Kirkpatrick (Dartmouth Subways AAA)
The kid reminds me alot of Brad Marchand. Coming from the same midget program (which always seems to be successful). At 5'8" 155 pounds, hes about the same size as Brad was coming out of Midget. He's got the same offensive mind and skill and with that added sh!t disturber attitude. I mean...If you're going to lose a Marchand, we might as well gain another! Chances are he might not be around at 39th, but if he is, he's one kid I'd love to see in a Wildcats uniform next season.
5TH ROUND: Luc Bourque (Moncton Flyers AAA)
Missed most of the remaining of the season due to an injury. But from what I saw from him while playing, was impressive. Being from Kent County, his dream growing up was to be a Wildcat. He's an offensive defenceman, solid vision off the ice and makes a good 1st pass out of the defensive zone. He has a strong ability of stopping opposing players along the boards. At only 5'11 and 160 pounds, he will need to bulk up some to withstand the bigger opposition in the Q.

Not to be negative, my take on both players...
Kirkpatrick is apparently leaning towards NCAA so the Cats would have to sell him on The Q, but he would be a great pick up if he reports.
Bourque because of his injury probably needs another year MAAA, the Cats need somebody who can step in and play next year, then start making a spot for himself the following year.

Thought I'd add on to this if you dont mind Billy. In Kirkpatrick's case, I had a hunch he was leaning towards the college route. But from what I've heard, the only Subways who have been offered prep school or NCAA offers were Alexi Pianosi, Matt Snow and Colin Cook. If we can keep Ted Nolan and Danny Flynn, I think them both have the ability to convince Kirkpatrick otherwise. It worked with Andrew MacDonald and Keith Yandle. Of course, they came only cause of the Memorial Cup oppurtunity. I'm sure Nolan and Flynn could still have great things to say about the Wildcats organization and like Nolan said in the paper the other day, the Wildcats have 23 ambassadors to the orginazation because of this season. As for Bourque, I wasnt really looking right into next year. As I mentioned, he would have to bulk up before taking on bigger opposing players. And I for one know, you cant bulk up in 5 months unless you're on something. So, an extra year in Midget would do him good. Perhaps even Junior A. I know today was the draft for the MJAHL and I havent heard or seen what the teams did.
