“CATS LOSE HEARTBREAKER IN OT” FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 9th, 2005 Saint John, NB - Josh Hepditch scored with less than a second remaining in regulation time to lift the Moncton Wildcats to a 4 – 4 deadlock with the Saint John Sea Dogs, only to have the Sea Dogs win 5 – 4 in a game that was decided by a shoot out in overtime. The contest, which was played before a crowd of 5,474 at Saint John’s Harbour Station, saw Saint John grab a 4 – 1 lead before the Wildcats stormed back to send the game into overtime. Along with Hepditch, Moncton received goals from Matt Eagles, Ian Girard and Oskars Bartulis. Replying for the Sea Dogs were Jean-Philippe Cote, Alex Grant, J.P. Roy and Francis Marchand. In the overtime, Hepditch, Marchand and Eagles failed to score for the Wildcats, while Saint John’s Vincent Lambert was stymied before Ryan Murphy scored the winner. Saint John outshot Moncton 35 – 33, including 14 – 9 in the second and 11 – 9 in the third. Moncton held a 15 – 10 advantage in the first period. Moncton was 2 for 12 on the powerplay, while Saint John went 2 for 10. Saint John improved their pre-season record to 4 – 3, while Moncton is winless in five outings. Riley Whitlock recorded the victory, while J.C. Blanchard suffered the setback in his first start of the exhibition season. Moncton will conclude its exhibition schedule on Sunday, September 11th, when they host the Lewiston MAINEiacs in a 7 pm contest at the Tim Horton’s 4-Ice Centre. Moncton will begin their regular season schedule on Friday, September 16th, when they will travel to Bathurst to face the Acadie-Bathurst Titan in a 7:30 pm contest at the K.C.
