James Shepherd of Sackville, N.S. (Cape Breton, QMJHL), Jonathan Toews of Winnipeg (Shattuck St-Mary's high school) and Halifax's Brad Marchand (Halifax, QMJHL) scored for Canada. Shepherd's and Marchand's goals came on the power play.

Who is this Brad Marchand with 2 goals and an assist? Surely it's not the same "too small waste of space" that played for the Wildcats last season.
I suppose it's possible that he's just another 16 year old kid that played very well his first year in the Q, but didn't light up the league like say....Crosby.
Marchand is star material. He has the talent and is gaining some size. He's playing with the best kids in the world of his age group and doing a lot more than just holding his own.
I don't think I'd toss him away just yet.

Hey there's a guy who scored a goal that plays for a high school. Maybe we could trade Blanchard for him?? What do you think about that BTK?

It's a highly touted prep school And apparently this Marchand guy who got 1 goal and 1 assist is Halifax property...so it says in the first post

I went to school before the new math kicked in but Marchand got an assist against Switzerland, a goal against Finland and a goal against the Czech Republic......let's see....no, I think I was right in saying he had 2 goals and an assist.

Yeah, but what has done in the Q since last April? Everyone knows small players can excel on the big international ice, but can't cut it over here in North America!

If we could get Jonathan Toews here, I would do it in an instant. You obviously have no idea who he is and no idea about Shattuck St.Mary's school either. Some of the best young players go there before deciding where to continue their careers ... does the name Sidney Crosby ring a bell?

Yeah, but what has done in the Q since last April? Everyone knows small players can excel on the big international ice, but can't cut it over here in North America! You're missing the point of my post altogether. Marchand was only 16 years old and playing in a league that is generally geared for 19 and 20 year olds. There's a lot of differences between his age group and the older Q players. The differences are both physiological and psychological. The fact that he played a full year in the Q at 16 says loads about his talent, coachability and desire. How many kids excelled in major junior at 16? How many talented players couldn't play major junior at 16? When the planets all line up Marchand is going to be a star in the Q. I wonder if you'll recognize it? It may not happen overnight, it's not supposed to. Players of this age group aren't a finished product, they're a work in progress.

The kid a Shattuck St. Mary's is pretty good or he wouldn't be there or on the U18 national team. I don't know that I'd trade Blanchard for him though....Blanchard is pretty good too...maybe you hadn't noticed. Unfortunately even Robert Irving can't have ALL the good young prospects.

Geez I hope you're wrong because if you're right I'm the idiot. It's not the first time, probably not the last either, but still unpleasant.

Toews was the 1st overall pick in the WHL draft a couple of years ago. He's now graduated from SSM and will be playing NCAA this season (for North Dakota, I believe).

Great Guys just great! Now Blanchard is going to be pissed off because you don't think he's "smart enough" to go to high school just like Sidney Crosby. Now if I were him I wouldn't play well for fans like you and that means we are going to need another Goalie. We are in the eye of a shiticane. Soon will come the shitstorm. Nice work!
