I'm surprised that no one has brought it up yet, but... "Wildcats add pair of enforcers to roster NEIL HODGE Times & Transcript Staff The Moncton Wildcats have signed their first two free agents for next season. The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League club has finalized tryout deals with Tim Spencer and Taylor Moore, both 19-year-old forwards who made their mark with a rugged style of play in Western Canada. ..." www.canadaeast.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050616/TTSPORTS03/206160458/-1/TTFRONTPAGE

From what I hear on Moore he will be good enough to fill the fighting role... But I don't get the Spencer signing... Moore has the PIM's to back up his role as an enforcer When Moore gets here, he needs to do something crazy in his first exhibition game, needs to make a good impression with the coach saying he will be willing to drop the mits.
Spencer had like 114 PIM's those aren't big numbers for someone who apparently will be an enforcer. I think he will just be a waste of space.

I think that Neil's title is a bit mis-leading, according to Nolan... "Spencer is a guy that's going to battle hard," said Wildcats head coach and director of hockey operations Ted Nolan. "He's a good-sized kid that can skate and he's going to go into the corners. He's going to give an honest effort every night and he's a good character kid." I see him being brought in as a 3rd/4th line hi-energy checking/gritty forward, and who doesn't shy from dropping the gloves, but isn't there just to do it. More along the lines of Doucette/Pelham, rather than a Cormier/Tremblay type player.

Sounds like Spencer is coming in to replace Begeron in the 3rd line banging winger and occasional scrapper role. Not sure why they described him as an "enforcer"...

How can you say that this Spencer kid will be a waste of space even before you've seen him? Just because he didn't have big stats in Junior A last year, that doesnt mean that he can't step in a give a solid contribution playing on the 4th line as spark plug type of player. Chris Gaudet didnt have big stats coming out of Midget AAA, but he has been a solid contributor for the Cats over the last couple of years wouldn't you agree?

I agree he has been a solid contributor yes! But you said it, He came right out of MAAA and made the jump to Major Junior. Spencer on the other hand went from MAAA to Jr.A why didn't he go right into the WHL??? I know his stats aren't that great, and his PIM's do not make him sound like an enforcer at all. I just don't see him coming here at 19 years old and having that much of an impact! Now I could be wrong and if I am I will admit it, and yes I basing this on numbers. But I don't think he will be much help to building a Memorial cup contender. But maybe billy and wild47 are right he might fill the role Bergeron left, and be more like a Doucette/Pelham kind of player! We will wait and see. Anyone hear anything about who the other FA's Nolan mentioned in the article that they are looking at signing???

Keep in mind that these guys being signed does not necessarily mean they are "on the team" ... although I have a feeling Moore is until we decide to dismiss him. I think Spencer has simply been invited to camp to try and earn a spot ... we won't keep him if he has no role here he can fill.

A team hosting the Mem Cup should not be seeking 19yr olds from TierII hockey....
Now, I never seen either kids play yet, but at 19 and playing TierII cant be a player ya want on a Mem Cup team......
As I said, I didn't see either one play but I dont expect to see either one too much next season anyhow.....
IMO

Circelli worked out pretty good as did O'Connor for us 3 years ago. Bobby Reed and Kory Baker were very nice role players for us in 99-00, and Baker helped val d'Or get to the Memorial Cup in 00-01...I don't see those guys necessarily not being Q calibre, maybe all things being equal they prefer to be 1st or 2nd line guys in Jr.A and playing for Nolan and the Memorial Cup gives them incentive to come.

IMO Exactly, but I see Moore being more useful to us in the sense that is Saunders comes back he won't have to fight as much with Moore in the line-up! The other guy, like I said I don't see him being much help, but thats my opinion. Maybe he will be a surprise like Girard was.

I just find it a bit funny that last season the Rocket, a team that didn't make the playoffs signed a TierII "Tough guy" in Alex Ennaffati.......People everywhere laughed.
This season the Host team of the Mem Cup signs a TierII "Tough guy".......and it is not so funny.
Why is that?
As I mentioned I never even heard of Moore until finding out about him going to Moncton, So i cant knock what I cant see.
As for Alex, he fought once last season at the CCC against Cormier and of course lost....but who didn't against Keven eh?
He fought Davidson twice in Bathurst I think, and according to some he won both....and according to others he split them with him.
My point is I can't see Moore being that "tough guy" the Wildcats need for THIS year.
If he proves me wrong.....good for him.
We shall see in preseason I guess.

Nothing wrong in bringing grtitty guys to training camp, who cares if they make the team or not...
Its good practice to play against guys who are rough and intense..
