So, any reactions to this 7-1 victory? Though I find that the main difference was in the nets tonight, there were a couple of players that stood out for me:
Andrew McDonald - When did this guy learn how to shoot? Last year, he would make me swear my head off with his constant passing off the puck on the pp. I thought maybe he didn't have a good shot, but when he took one, it was always good. Maybe having Yandle wasn't helping, but I'm glad to see him shoot and quarterback that power play.
Tim Spencer - If it wasn't for the depth we had as 20 year olds, I'd love to have him back on the team. Great fight where he landed some solid punches, never put his team in trouble and was his usual s*** disturbing self.
Rooperti Martikainen - Played much better then vs. Lewiston I found. Not scared to play physical. Not as quick hands as I thought he would have, but excellent vision with and without the puck nonetheless.
Marc-André Labelle - A big guy playing a big game. His physical presence was a very nice addition tonight. Solid game on his part.
Matt Eagles - Played a real good game. He seems a lot stronger and much more confident with the puck compared to last year. It was my first time seeing him and I must admit he was very impressive.
Alexi Pianosi - HUGE improvement over the first game vs. Lewiston. You could see he was much more confident with the puck. Looked stronger, less nervous probably. Seems very comfortable with the puck, makes a couple of rookie mistakes, but should turn out to be a great dman for the future.
Jhase Sniderman - Big performance tonight. Made many key saves. His lateral movements were right on the money, and the pucks that he mishandled he always seemed to be able to stop them. I hope he can turn in these kinds of performance all year long.
Randy Cameron - Many good plays tonight. He's by no means a flashy player, goes often unnoticed, but he gets the job done right. Good pickup by the Wildcats. Should be a force in two years time.

Not sure how to react to this one. It was the Seadogs I expected the score to be run up. The Fins clobbered them. Looks like another long year for the Dogs.
Some thoughts
A McDonald - better shot tonight but still too many defensive errors any other team than the Seadogs and he would have caused some goals.
Spencer - has heart, be sad to see him go.
The Russian kid: anyone notice him out there tonight? Still haven't seen anything...
The Fin - This kid is quality has some flashes of brilliance but needs some seasoning in the Q. Will be a great addition.
Dunlop - didn't impress again, for all his size he needs to be a presence, especially with our smaller team; he hasn't stepped up yet.
Pianosi - Agreed he played much better tonight, Gone from a weak player to an average player. Kid reads the ice well. Think he has some potential.
Sniderman - Huge game, pleasure to watch. Solidly our #1
D Mac and Cameron had solid games.
Over all a solid effort by the boys, results were as expected.
Hear there were a bunch of cuts tonight anyone got any more on that?

They seemed to be a little sloppy in the first even though we were up 3-0. Passes didn't seem to be as crisp as in the 2nd and 3rd. Roop played pretty solid. Not his best game but still showed flashes. He and Cameron seem to play very well together. Where did Emanuelle learn to hit like that? I don't remember him doing that at all last year. He had a couple of big checks. Great to see. Oskoun has a good shot on him from the point. Really surprised to see it. He looked good out there. D Mac played well last night. Very steady and was shooting. He's got a decent shot and seemed to be able to help QB the PP. Loved to see the coach throw Spencer back on to get into it. Finally a fight and not a hug fest. Pianosi looks to be getting more comfortable out there. Passes seemed a little more accurate and better timed. My player of the game is SNIDERMAN! What a game that guy played. Made some huge saves along with a few lucky bounces but he was greeat. Hope he keeps it up cause he's gonna see lots of that this season. Samson as usual plyed well, solid on both ends. Igor still hasn't shown me that much. Really didn't notice him out there. All round decent game for the Cats.

Voroshilov is the one guy I'm waiting for to show me more and it hasn't come yet. He hasn't looked like he doesn't belong, but he has not made any plays to create a goal either. I have not given up on him, but he will need to show more or he won't be back next year as the WC will probably have an early Euro pick.
Lewis and Lamoureux were cut last night, down to 31. Neither guy is a huge shock, Lamoureux seems to be a tough kid, but another year MAAA to work on his hockey skills won't hurt. I liked Lewis in intersquad, but his skating is not the best right now, maybe he can be a candidate for a spot next year.
In Goal(Riopel Sniderman Blouin), Riopel is the lock, both 19 year olds have played well, I'd keep Sniderman because I trust his consistency, I'm not convinced Blouin can do the job long term. Sniderman won't be a Bernier or Pavelec but a solid junior goalie who will give his team a chance to win every night.
On defense(Welton A.MacDonald D.MacDonald Belanger Emmanuele Ouskun Pianosi Boyle Grant Croft), Welton and A.Mac appear to be the locks. Belanger and D.Mac will have to be cut or traded for the 25 man roster date unless Welton is moved before then. Emmanuele and Ouskun have made a good impression, I think they have to stick as all the others are 17. Pianosi and Boyle should be locks at 17, Boyle had a very good game last week but hasn't played since. Until Bourdon comes back, at least 1 or both of Grant and Croft, both 17 should stick. Right now I would have Croft ahead from what I have seen, he is more physical, but Grant seems to have more offensive upside. I would let Belanger and D.Mac go unless they can be traded.
Up front(Gaudet Spencer Samson Marquardt Morehouse Eagles Smith Labelle Lessard Cameron Lepage Voroshilov Brenton Martikanen MacLellan MacQuaid Dunlop). Spencer is the obvious extra forward. After that, it depends on what direction the Cats want to go, it appears that MacQuaid would be the next to go, then for the final 1-2 spots it's between MacLellan and Dunlop. MacLellan has shown a lot of speed, been very good on PK and disruptive on the forecheck. Dunlop is a big body on a very small team. The question is how much better will he look when he is in shape and will he dop the gloves when needed, since that is a big need. If Dunlop is unwilling to drop the gloves, better to cut him and pick up an 18 or 19 year old free agent to do the job, unless a 19 year old from the Q goes on waivers.
To get from 30 to 25 my cuts are...Blouin Spencer D.Mac Belanger and MacQuaid. Then 1 or 2 of Grant Croft Dunlop MacLellan could go if they want to get to 23 or 24. Bourdon coming back would definitely push out a d-man. I would stick with 25 players until midseason, given that a lot of guys are jumping to a higher level and ease them in 2 games out of 3 or 3 out of 4.

How was the Battista Vs. Spencer fight? Just wondering. A win for Spencer but Battista hung in there after getting pummelled early on. Battista had cheap shotted Spencer earlier in the game and we all knew this one was coming sooner or later. Is Battista a designated tough guy on SJ this year ?

They have 3 guys...Bergeron Gallant and Battista...he is the guy on the bubble. If he gets cut the Cats should pick him up...
