Reading the T&T this morning it was talking about Danis-Pepin and him going the US route. They had asked if the Blackhawks would push Pepin to go the Q route or the US. They had said that it would really depend on who is coaching. If Torchetti gets the job it would encourage them to push him that way as they feel he is a good teacher and he can get the kids up to speed sooner. Now Irving said he is in no rush to hire a coach but I think he really needs to speed this up. We are 6 weeks away from trainning camp and have a few FA's (who were recruited by Nolan and Co.) who may still be undecided and we have quite a few US kids who we need to start trying to convince to play in the Q. By the time a new coach is put in and, learns about the Wildcats, our depth chart (limited aqs it may be) and the system Irving has in place how much time will be left to try to get some of these highly touted US players to play here? I think it needs to be done and done soon. Torchetti seems like a good fit from what I have read about him. Seems to be able to teach and the players seem to like him. Reminds me a bit of nolans work ethic. (Still remains to be seen) So how much time is too long to get a coach in place for next season? I think he should be in by the end of next week in my personal opinion.

But given Denis-Pepin's short term plans for Moncton, the obviously the thing to do is trade him to a team that has the coaching that Chicago wants. He would get a large number of draft choices that would replace what we lost this year. It would be a good win win.

But on the other hand what if they send him here because of the coach? Would they be able to add in a no trade clause? (does that even exist in the CHL??) I agree trading him would be much better for the development of the team.

Because the focus of the rebuilding is for next year and more importantly the years after that. Since he wouldn't be here then, why not trade him to make sure those years are very strong. Besides it sounds like he would come to the Q for the right team and environment and I wouldn't think, barring some unbelievable coaching announcement, we would have what he is looking for. So we get the missing draft choices from this year and some team would get a very strong player that won't come for us. If Billy was brokering the trade he would want all the teams draft choices for the next five years.

Because this year we are going to suck so he will stay put. Last year he could have been here, should have been here and for some reason wasn't so what chance will he be here this year. Lets hope for Chicago pressure, but I still think he may fit into Gatineaus calendar of peaking better.

Last year he wouldn't get much icetime ... he is still just a kid ... it is best for him to come in this year and get loads of icetime. I mispoke when I said he was 17 ... he is an 88 which would make him 18 this year. If he is in his final year (next year lets assume) and we aren't a contender he can be traded then for hopefully a big return... just like Bourdon was from VD. But if you trade him now he won't bring a great return because he hasn't proven anything yet. Moncton would be a very good move for him this year ... several veteran Dmen to learn from ... but also an opportunity for lots of icetime.
