Hard to say. Would David Brine have scored 100 points if he had been in Moncton this year sharing all the prime ice time with other players? Downie at 17 did score 73 points in 61 games on a Windsor team that finished 7th in their conference (15 out of 20 overall). I truly find it hard to believe that some of you are actually saying that a Samson is better than a player that was drafted in the 1st round and was one of the better players on the World Junior team last year. Downie was the number 1 center on the OHL Champion team. Samson was a 3rd line winger on the QMJHL Champion team. Brine could have been close to 100 pts here as he would have been that 2nd line center we were looking for ... he might not get the same amount of PP time here ... but he'd play alot more 5 on 5 on offense rather than defending. The Peterborough team we saw in the Mem Cup would have been about 5th best in the Q ... Chic and Bat were also better than them ... and they would have a hard time beating Gatineau in a 7 game series. Downie is all those things you say ... but he is also very much over-rated. I can't help it if a 1st round draft pick was wasted on him. Yes Downie was a terrible pick....just like that waste of space Jeff Carter and the other young bum Mike Richards....another terrible first rounder by the Flyers yesterday picking Giroux easily one of the worst players in the entire Q. I highly doubt that a guy who went undrafted is better than a guy who played on the 1st line at the WJC

I think Claude Giroux is going to be a great player on the Flyers down the road. He might not be the type of player they usual pick "crash and banger", but with the presence of another Quebec player Simon Gagne should help Giroux with his development. I'm sure once he hits his prime, Bobby Clarke with finally know his name If everyone knows what I'm talking about

Yes i was sarcastic. It was as unrealistic as most you guys praise Samson I just think its hilarious how people say he's better than Downie, yet even with Nolan coaching to Islanders he still got passed up in the entire draft.....Downie meanwhile was a force at the WJ's,the top jr tournament in the world

Steve Downie is a great hockey player,as is Jerome Samson. They both bring different physical skills to the game.As we all have witnessed Samson is an intelligent and dedicated team player.
The question still remains. Is Steve Downie's volatility going to stand in the way of his ability to make the appropriate split second decisions at the pro level? The ability to bring a heightened sense of emotion to the game is only valuable if can be channeled into positive energy and actions on behalf of your entire team. Not as a show of ego, petulance or immaturity.
