Flynn was not an assistant, he was associate coach. I take that to mean that he shared the Head coaching duties with Nolan. Also remember that Nolan is Director of Hockey Operations as well (GM in most other clubs) so really we only have 3 people responsible for 3 roles, GM, Head Coach and assistant coach. I still don't think Lacroix will want to be 2nd fiddle and Irving will want 3 people being paid big $$$. Flynn was probably paid a head coach's salary last year. I think that at best 2 of the 3 will be back.

For Nolan, from What Bill(schurman) said yesterday it is now up to "when" he is gonna sign not "if". Like he said, we all read the papers and its pretty obvious that he wants to stay and MR Irving wants to keep him so unless some NHL team calls him SOON with a head coaching position, he will be in moncton for a few years. When asked the question Schurman also checked his email on his blackberry because he had just received one and thought it might just be about that...so it could be possible that we would know in a few days...
As for Flynn, i dont know if it really means anything but when he was presented with his blanket (at the awards ceremony) he turned to one of the booster club members and said : " at least i'll have this to keep me warm after the wife throws me out for staying(with moncton)".
Not sure if the info is helpeful or not but thats what i got...lol

Nolan seems to be waiting for some kind of NHL team signal before committing to Moncton.... The NHL draft will be before the end of June and, very often, teams choose this occasion to announce their new coaches for the next season....if changes are in line. Right now there are at least 6 vacant positions in the NHL and a lor of suitors of course....
This goes to say that Nolan's dream is still to be coaching in the NHL and to stay in Moncton after the season he just had would be kind of a setback in his career plans.

I think we will know for sure by the end of June, generally NHL teams are encouraged not to announce new coaching hires during the Stanley Cup final, so it should be a slow week or two, followed by a rash of announcements between the end of the final and the draft.

It might just be plan B, but making 6 numbers to coach junior minus all the media and pressure of the NHL is pretty darn good. With all his contacts(and Flynn's) he might be able to add a good amount of FA's and NCAA guys to help ease the rebuilding.

I agree ... BUT ... most of those teams probably already have a guy in place with an agreement in hand ... but are just waiting for the Stanley Cup to end before announcing it. If Nolan doesn't know now whether he is at least being considered for a position then he is probably not on anybody's list. If he has had interviews then he is right to wait ... but if he hasn't then it ain't gonna happen.

you know Nolan may just have the agreement in place and he and RKI are having too much fun watching us speculate on here...as to what will happen...

I would think that university head coaches get paid much more than a typical major junior assistant, not to mention there is more job security in the university ranks (less coaching turnover). That being said, I am sure that Flynn was earning more than a typical assistant would earn this past season. I don't think typical Q assistants earn much, which explains why most are either young coaches starting out or part-timers who hold a day job... I would be very surprised if a University Hockey Coach makes a lot more than a Major Junior Assistant. In University the focus is all about learning and they don't go far and wide looking for the best Coaches they can find. If a Canadian University's got money they put it many more places than in their Hockey Coaches. I still got to think the WC's, even at assistant coaches salary, is a better deal. I also think that NHL and AHL look to Major Junior before University for their coaches. I would think they represent a career coach versus a coach looking for a secure job. Probably true for where pros look future coaches (since CHL is one of the main development leagues for the NHL), but there are still cases where university coaches go to pros. Jean Perron (UdeM) went to the Habs and actually won the Stanley Cup when he was head coach. As for salaries I wouldn't underestimate university coach salaries, but its hard to say. On the other hand, I believe their US counterparts are better compensated especially at US universities or colleges in states where hockey is a big draw (e.g. North Dakota, Maine, Minnesota).

As reported on Global News this evening, Danny Flynn's announcement on whether he'll be back with St. FX is expected sometime this evening. He is in Charlottetown this weekend with Mr. Nolan helping out the Wildcats at the draft.
