“MONCTON WINS SEASON OPENER”

Bathurst, NB – Moncton Wildcats started their tenth anniversary season in the QMJHL with a 6 – 5 victory over the Acadie-Bathurst Titan before a sell out crowd of 3,524 at the K. C. Irving Regional Center on Friday. The teams were tied 3 – 3 after the first period and 4 – 4 heading into the third period, before the Widlcats outscored the Titan 2 – 1 in the third period to post their first win of the regular season. Stephane Goulet, who just returned from the Edmondton Oilers Training Camp, scored two goals, including the game winner, at 11:48 of the third period, to lead the Wildcats, while Josh Hepditch had a goal and one assist. Other Moncton goal scorers included Brad Marchand, Christian Gaudet and Jason Demers. Rookie defenseman Andrew MacDonald added three assists, in his first Major Junior contest. Replying for the Titan were Steven Goulet and Olivier LeBelle , each with a pair of goals, while Mathieu Perrault added a single. Moncton was 4 for 11 on the powerplay, while Acadie-Bathurst went 2 for 9. Acadie-Bathurst outshot Moncton 27 – 25, including 7 – 6 in the first and 14 – 8 in the second, while Moncton held an 11 – 6 advantage in the third period. Moncton’s J.C. Blanchard recorded the victory, as he blocked 22 of 27 shots he faced. Maxim Gougeon allowed six goals on 25 shots to suffer the setback. The game’s three stars were #1 – Stephane Goulet, #2 – Steven Goulet and #3 – Marc-Andre Dorion. Moncton continues their three game road trip on Sunday when they travel to Cape Breton to face the Screaming Eagles at Center 200. Moncton’s home opener is set for Sunday, September 25th, when they will face the Saint John Sea Dogs in a 4 pm contest at the Moncton Coliseum.
