“WILDCATS CLOSE OUT PRE-SEASON WITH IMPRESSIVE WIN” FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 11th, 2005 Moncton, NB - Moncton Wildcats built up a 6 – 0 lead after two periods and went on to defeat the visiting Lewiston MAINEiacs 7 – 1 before 1,309 at the Tim Hortons 4 – Ice Centre on Sunday. The game was Moncton’s last pre-season game and their first victory after five setbacks. Second year veteran forward Jerome Samson led the scoring summary for the Wildcats with two goals and two assists. Brad Marchand and Brad Smith each had one goal and one assist, with single goals coming from Tyler Moore, J.P. Chabot and Josh Hepditch. Ian Girard and Tim Spencer each had a pair of assists, while Oskars Bartulis, Chris Moorehouse and Nathan Welton each chipped in with one assist. Chabot, Samson and Smith each scored on the powerplay, while Hepditch added a short-handed tally. Replying for the MAINEiacs was Eric Castonguay, with a powerplay marker in the third period. Moncton led 3 – 0 after the first. Moncton outshot Lewiston 33 – 24, including 13 – 5 in the first and 13 – 8 in the second, while the MAINEiacs held an 11 – 7 advantage in the third. J.C. Blanchard recorded the victory, as he blocked 23 of 24 shots, while Moncton native Travis Fullerton allowed seven goals on 33 shots to suffer the setback. Moncton was 3 for 6 on the powerplay, while Lewiston went 1 for 8. Jerome Samson and Tyler Moore led the Wildcats shooters with five shots each, with Josh Hepditch having four. Ian Girard won seven out of eight face-offs he took in the contest. Moncton will begin their regular season schedule on Friday, September 16th, when they will travel to Bathurst to face the Acadie-Bathurst Titan in a 7:30 pm contest at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre.
