"Moncton added Yandle and released six players yesterday. Gone are goaltender Matt Leduc, defenceman Scott Judson and forwards Nathan Francis, Corey Garland, Daniel Calitri and Chad McQuaid."
Leduc - G - 19: No surprise here. He was the weakest of the four remaining goalies and I think the Cats want to keep their eye on Nicola Riopel for just a little longer. Leduc will have a super season in Junior A.
Judson - D - 19: No surprise here either. Well, actually he never did make it to camp so difficult to judge.
Francis - F - 18: Showed some signs of being a good player at camp. Some attendees really enjoyed watching his play in the intrasquad games but really no surprise. He played 6 games with the Cats last season and they'll keep their eye on him.
Garland - F - 18: Not a surprise. Just out of Midget AAA, at times he seemed missing on the ice for the Cats. The last intrasquad game he played was with Gaudet and Mazerolle mainly. Not a great line. He'll put up good numbers for the Junior Beavers.
Calitri - F - 18: Yes, to me a surprise. I thought that they would keep him around awhile longer. I thought he had a great camp and is a real "digger, never scared to mix it up - a real pest on the ice. The fans seemed to like him as well. Again, a Midget AAA grad, now back to Junior A probably.
McQuaid - F - 17: No surprise here. What I said about Garland can apply to McQuaid. Back to PEI in Junior A. He has a good future.

Those are all pretty obvious ones.
Next round of cuts?
I think Riopel Lepage Labelle are headed to MAAA along with Lessard(hurt and already gone), they may stick around a few more weeks because of school.
I think Smith, Mazerolle, Ouimet, Ouskun and Gardiner are the next round of cuts.
After that, the roster is at 29 and the cuts become harder.

I think that young Bradley Smith has had an excellent rookie camp. He is a huge kid but skates very well and gets very involved in the play. I hope to see him on the team next year since we will likely have many openings ... and a year of strengthening for him will probably make him a solid power forward. We have signed Moore on but without seeing them fight I prefer Obelnicki ... as he actually has some skill and can take a shift without being a liability ... while Moore can barely skate and is useless with the puck ... and seems to be a bit of a loose cannon. Moore better be scary if we are going with him. Even if Obelnicki isn't quite as tough I think he looks to be a better choice ... his name is certainly tougher sounding ...

Moore Obelnicki and Spencer may all stick and be in and out of the lineup...though I think only 2 of the 3 will. I don't see all 3 in the lineup at once unless it's against St.Johns. What are eveybody's thoughts on Clinton and Eagles? I think both are on the bubble due to age(Clinton) and inconsistant performance(Eagles). I think both will need to step up in exhibition.

The latter five haven't shown me very much, especially Ouskun and Gardiner for some reason. Lessard, Lepage and Riopel are 16 and not ready for this team. Especially when you are trying to build for the Memorial Cup.

Shaun Clinton, the 19 year old center, I really, really liked. He has the size and skates very well. Doesn't look out of place at all. Matt Eagles is only 17 and even though he tries very hard at camp, I can't see him sticking. He showed us some good rushes and shots, but he isn't there yet.

Clinton's skating is weak and he isn't nearly as physical as he should be at that size with limited skill. Matt Eagles, yes is inconsistent, and thats what you get with 16 and 17 yr olds ... but he has created a pile of offense with his heads up play, quickness, and smarts. He'll adjust to the Q quickly once he gets a consistent set of linemates and can play within an established system. Shawn Clinton pales in comparison. Eagles will stick. Eagles is alot like Marchand last year.

Though I wouldn't say limited skill, I find he is strong on the puck and has good hands...maybe if he picked up his physical game he could be a Bergeron with more scoring touch...I think he needs 2-3 exhibitions to show he belongs or not on the squad. I think he has done better than you give him credit for. Eagles, I think he plays very small at times which hurts him in 1 on 1 battles, maybe it's just an adjustment, at this point, given that it's "think about this year only" attitude and he needs to prove in exhibitions that he can contribute now or end up in Woodstock.

For a while, I wanted Eagles at Titan camp this year and I was sorry to hear that he went to Moncton. All along in the last two years, Lalalaprise wrote that he was fearful and chilly in the traffic and Billy points that out too. I feel much less sorry now... Heck! Even a Perreault, with a smaller frame, is not afraid in the traffic. That speaks loud...

He has the speed and skills to be a scoring line forward in the Q but still has some adjusting to do...I'm sure Perreault does also even though your rose coloured glasses don't see it. If he was in Bathurst you'd be calling him the next Karl Fournier.

The biggest surprise I had with latest cuts was that Ouskun was not cut- he looked lost out there most of the time in the inter-squad games.

Courage can't make you heavier. Perrault will face the same problem once he plays against full Q squads. He can't avoid physical contact ... and if he is avoiding it then he isn't playing the game. Maybe Perrault doesn't go in the corners or the front of the net though ...

Calitri?? his style must conflict with the coaches because I can't believe he doesn't have what it takes. Also I noticed Obelnicki seems to be a hot head and I would expect that there are equal players with cooler heads. I also agree with Steve with regards to Clinton.

The biggest surprise I had with latest cuts was that Ouskun was not cut- he looked lost out there most of the time in the inter-squad games. I thought he was a very steady d-man and played mistake free, you hardly ever notice him. I think he might end up caught in the numbers with Demers Adam Belanger Yandle Bartulis Welton Emanuele and Penner ahead of him, I think he can play in the Q right now.

You know Tanguay is playing very well too. Again he may be caught in the numbers as well. He may make an excellent trade possibility.
