Matt Cheney tossed a complete-game as the Moncton Mets defeated the Saint John Alpines 4-2. Derek Wilson had a monsterous homerun in the top of the first inning which cleared the scoreboard and landed on the opposite side of Dever Road. Cheney worked his way out of a jam in the 6th inning as he loaded the bases, but got Ron Barton to fly out to the right fielder. A mental error by Alpines manager Mike Skidd could have possibly prevented the Alpines from coming back. With the ball hit to right field and runners on 2nd and 3rd, the runner from 3rd scored easily, making it 4-2, however Skidd waives through Aaron Johnson who was on 2nd base, however, the ball beat him to home plate and Johnson was called out. Johnson believed he slid under the tag and argued wildy with homeplate umpire Fran McHugh, and was promtply ejected. At one point Johnson almost knocked the umpire over, which prompted both base umpires to charge into the homeplate area. The Mets finished off the Alpines with a 1-2-3 7th inning to secure Game 2. Jay McGee tossed a complete game 4 hitter for the Alpines, but errors and several walked batters got him into trouble and led to the loss. Time of game: 2 Hours 23 Minutes Umpires: Fran McHugh, Steve Hachey, Nelson Adams

Derek Wilson the starter for the Moncton Mets gave up at 1st pitch top of the 1st homerun to Mike King as the Alpines jumped on the board early to grab a 1-0. But the Moncton Mets never rolled over. In the bottom of the 3rd Dana Harquil played the long ball game hitting a solo shot over the right field fence tying the game a 1, and then Moncton scored 1 more by the end of the 3rd to take a 2-1 lead. The Mets tacked 2 more on the board in the bottom of the 4th inning and held on to beat the Saint John Alpines 4-2 and take a 3-0 series lead... Game 4 goes tomorrow night 7:30 pm in Saint John

The Moncton Mets did not want to give the Saint John Alpines no more chances to play ball and finished off the 4th place team tonight in 4 straight wins to advance to the New Brunswick Senior Baseball League finals! Steve Desjardin pitched for the win and Tim Moore pitched for the losing end. The Mets will now face the winner of the Fredericton Royals-vs- the Chatham Ironmen. Royals lead the series 3-1.

The Moncton Mets are still awaiting to find out which team they will face off with in the New Brunswick Senior Baseball League finals against, as the series has now come down to GAME 7! Chatham has over come the deficit of being down 3-1 in the series and take Games 5 (14-13 after being down 9-2 after 3 innings) and Game 6 (10-8) to drag this series to its final game! The game is Saturday night in Chatham (Might be on Rogers Television as a couple of the games have been on all ready) The winner will then play Moncton in the finals with the Mets having the home field advantage! This series will start some time following next weeks Canadian Senior Baseball Championships!

Not much they can do I suppose. The league determines the schedule which is supposed to be H-A-Off-H-A-Off-H-A-Off-H.
Maybe that's the reason Sept 11th game is listed as either 2 pm or 7 pm. I thought it might have been because of cold weather, but maybe it's because of the Cats.
In any event, many Mets fans are Wildcats fans and also Wildcats volunteers/staff. They maybe should look at the dates again.

Normally the schedule can be worked out between the 2 teams. And yes your right on the Home-Away-2 days off-Home-Away-2 days off... etc... I know during the Saint John series the Saint John coach passed on a revised schedule of games 3 to 7 because of the cancellation of game 2... and the Mets approved it. Normally So I am sure the Friday game could be switched just dunno if they are going to bother, with so much happening here that weekend. Though I think the Mets should have pushed for the Thursday night game here, that means they go to Fredericton Friday, and the Mets can have their Sunday night game here at home instead of the way it is now... Either way I know where I will be the 2nd... lol there is a whole winter season a head of us with hockey, so I am going to go enjoy whats left of the baseball season!!! But then again it could always rain!!!

I definitely agree with you. I think the Mets would be wise to switch the Friday game to Thursday, go to Fredericton on Friday and come back here on Sunday (their normal home date) instead of Monday and use Monday as a rain date.
I keep thinking of all the Mets fans who are Cats fans as well. And I know many I spoke to want to see the Seadogs on Sept 2. Also, the Mets should know where the reporters will be - they won't be at the Mets game (well probably SH will as NH will cover the Cats).
But, bottom line..... I agree. Thusday and Sunday home dates is what they should be. Nobody will be away that weekend as school opens Tuesday.

Well now that the Series is under a week away from starting I will give a little back ground on how the 2 teams faired out vs each other in the Reg. Season and what kind of series to expect...
The season series was tied 4-4 Moncton winning games by a score of 4-2 3-0 7-6 and 11-1
Fredericton winning games 4-1 7-6 3-1 and 3-2
So with the exception of 1 game the games have been close...
Another thing that will make this series more interesting is the fact that the 3-1 loss at home to Fredericton near the end of the season featured a bench clearing brawl. Started between Moncton import and former Fredericton Royal Derek Wilson and Fredericton Royal Jody Peterson. I know people say it happened all ready and most likely won't happen again... that might be true... but I think between these 2 games there is a possibility of bad blood boiling over once again!

Head to head with the Cats isn't really desirable, but is but one consideration in setting up the series. The Mets probably wanted to be sure of having Wilson available to pitch game 1 against the Royals, with him being at the Nats with the Ironmen there was a potential for him to pitch as late as Sunday, five days rest would bring him to Friday night before he was once again available. In hindsight, his only outing at the Nats was on Saturday, but there was no way of knowing that in advance.
