The high profile former NYI player to be added to the mix is probably Bryan Trottier...thought I heard an interview with Mike Bossy on XM radio last friday and he was talking about the addition of Trottier ( only caught the end of the interview but I think it was Trottier). Trottier's already on board. The new former player is Pat Lafontaine as a consultant. It's interesting that Trottier also brings a First Nation heritage with him ... perhaps he was also instrumental behind the scenes in convincing NYI to hire Nolan.

Nolan also interviewed for the NYI job back in 2001, before they hired Peter Laviolette, and at the time, Milbury said he wasn't 'blown away' with Nolan's interview. (Which is something I've heard more than once... maybe after a Tampa Bay interview) Seeing as how Milbury is still with the organization, I wonder if Neil Smith had much input into the Nolan hiring.

Maybe Nolan doesn't blow people away during interviews because he is a candid and not a good bullshitter...eventually bullshit walks.

Somehow the opinions of Mike Milbury don't seem to carry much weight ... he has made so many good decisions while with NYI.

We knew it was going to happen but it is now official. Nolan is the coach of the NYI.

Somehow the opinions of Mike Milbury don't seem to carry much weight ... he has made so many good decisions while with NYI. In Milbury's defence, the first 3 owners he worked under were terrible. The first, John Pickett, was an absentee owner. He wouldn't let Milbury spend any money. The next owner, John Spano, never really owned the team, as he forged many of his financial documents, never made a payment to Pickett, and ended up going to jail. Pickett then sold the team to Howard Milstein who also wouldn't spend any money because what he really wanted was to own an NFL team and was using the Isles as a stepping stone. None of these guys wanted to spend any money and forced many of the trades Milbury made... Pallfy to LA; Bertuzzi and McCabe for Linden. Basically dump any good players who are due for a raise and who's contracts are up I have no defence for the trades Milbury made since Charles Wang has owned the team. There are 2 big ones that people rip him over: Luongo and Jokinen to Florida for Parrish and Kvasha. Spezza and Chara to Ottawa for Yashin. If he doesn't make the Florida trade, then they probably draft Heatley instead of DiPietro. Heatley, Jokinen, and Luongo would be 3 nice players to have. If he doesn't make the Ottawa trade then the Isles probably don't make the playoffs in 01-02, but they'd be much better off now. But when you've missed the playoffs for 6 seasons, sometimes the short term gain is too tempting. Islanders history lesson over for today.

His 10 year deal to Yashin is one of the worst deals in pro sports history.

I don't know the A Rod deal was a little crazy too.

I don't know the A Rod deal was a little crazy too. Except that A Rod is an MVP where as Yashin has not done anything impressive since going there.

How many other Major Junior coaches have signed NHL contracts since the end of the season? It doesn't matter what anybody thinks, Ted Nolan is now an NHL coach. He gave those of us in Moncton the greatest year we've seen so far so he really owes us nothing but we owe him our thanks.
It looks to me like the Islanders are looking to improve their team which is why they hired Nolan. They can't be all that concerned about his views or politics or they wouldn't have offered him a contract.
Thanks for a great year Ted. Congratulations and best of luck in New York.
(I still think he could have showed his solidarity with the Wildcats players by bleaching his hair out blonde.)

I don't know the A Rod deal was a little crazy too. A Rod is at least the best all around player in the game and not a cancer like Yashin.

Sucky news for the Wildcats. Good news for Nolan. Without knowing the replacement this news makes us weaker for next year. Having Nolan in a down year with his ability to get players to compete every shift would've given us a hard working team that could upset a few top teams in the regular season... Well, I'm now hoping for a goon squad so we can at least say "well, we lost the game, but boy, did we ever win the fights." ;D Damn if you build your own goon squad then the Fog Devils would need a new look,as thats what we were gonna be this season
