According to l'Acadie Nouvelle this morning, Bourque will sign in the next few days an AHL contract. Yandle does not want to come to the Q, but there is still a very remote chance for him to show up...later...

Was it only a few short weeks ago that you questionned the newspaper's credibility...now it's the bible?

Its unfortunate that neither player will be coming, but there never were any guarantees that we would land either player.

Unfortunately Bourque decided to go public in the papers announcing that he would be coming to Moncton for the next hockey year... got a lot of hopes up.

Wasn't it you last week saying the AN says Karsums is out for a few months after his shoulder surgery... seems real accurate! why don't you stick to making your predictions on how your team is going to do, and keep making your predictions on how many points each player on your team is going to get! I will believe that neither of these players will be here when I don't see them on a roster!

I don't think that you can blame Bourque for wanting to play at the highest level possible. As for his previous comment earlier in the summer about wanting to come to Moncton well that is just smart PR in case he didn't make the AHL.
On the reverse, last summer, we had Urqhart do the complete opposite where in an interview at the end of the season he said that he was done with the Q and ready for the AHL (paraphrasing). It really pissed a lot of people off and when he got cut from the Bulldogs had he had to return to the Rocket he would not have gotten a warm reception, despite his offensive ability.
No sense burning bridges unnecessarily. Besides I am sure that Bourque would have been content playing with Moncton had he not made it. Yandle might be a different story as he never really appeared to have any interest in the Q.
The holes to fill are getting bigger & bigger. I have no question that your GM will do everything possible the question is are the right players going to be available and will Moncton have enough assets to trade!

Yandle flunked out of College, now he's going to play in another College. There is a fair chance that by November-December, he's having a hard time with school work and decides to quit College. Afterwards, his only option is Moncton. IMO, there is still a 50-50 chance we see him here.
If Bourque signs an AHL contract and performs very well in the AHL, no doubt he will stay there. But at 19 year old, a player his size, he might have especially 4th line ice time and trouble adjusting. Washington could very well decide playing for an NHL coach of the year in a Memorial Cup run would help his development. I think his chances are 20-80. All along, we knew Chris Bourque would try to play AHL. Before I heard about him signing a contract, I thought our chances were 50-50. I wasn't convinced he'd make the AHL.
Moncton also has Danis-Pepin who wants to play NCAA. He could change his mind also and decide to come. I don't know what are the chances of this happening, and I know if he comes he might not be an immediate impact because of his age, but that would give us depth and value in a trade.
Ted Nolan invited a lot of free agent. If one of them ends up to be an impact player (like Circelli, baker, O'Connor, or even a Scott English type for a role player) it will be worth it.
Imagine Steve Bernier getting injured in November-December (I certainly don't wish him that) and needs a 2-3 months recovery. They could send him back to Moncton to recover and he would be ready for the Memorial Cup. Like I said, I don't wish him that, but just saying anything can happen.
The thing is, Moncton are settings themselves up for good luck. We can't expect that all of the above mentionned scenario is going to work out, but chsb will be the first one saying we were lucky that one or two fluke give us the opportunity to have help coming our way after season starts.
Just like we didn't expect to have Crawford in the net last year.
Remember, Chris Bourque was a 12th or 13th round pick. Just the attention Moncton got of him maybe reporting all summer was worth the pick just for PR.

How can a CHL-drafted player play AHL at 19 years old? I thought it was NHL or major junior for 19 year olds. Has the rule changed? Was there ever such a rule?

Bourque was drafted out of Prep School. Drafted players from NCAA and Prep School can play in the AHL at 19. ** edited to satisfy Billy **

Bourque was drafted out of prep school at Cushing Academy in June 2004. Is it because some prep schools, particularly in New England, are not associated with Hockey USA, and I suspect any agreements Hockey USA has with the NHL would not apply?

Players drafted out of prep school / NCAA are eligible to play in the AHL at 19. If they played in the CHL before being drafted, they are not eligible to play in the AHL at 19.
The same rules apply to Euros. Example: Zakharov was drafted the summer before coming here and he could play in the AHL at 19. Karsums, on the other hand cannot play in the AHL this year since he had played here before being drafted.

Bourque was drafted as an NCAA player. He only played NCAA after being drafted
