Speaking of the MJAHL...
Dustin Slade, the starting goalie for the Vancouver Giants at last years Memorial Cup has signed on to play with the Halifax Wolverines of the MJAHL. Quite a career move for him. Mark February 22nd down on your calendar as that is the day when Dustin Slade makes his return to Moncton ;D

MikeC explains it on the Moose board...something like he was hurt and when he came back they added a non-20 goalie and Wacey Rabbit(as a 20), they didn't want to trade him to another contender, he ends up suspended by the team then the league thus preventing him from playing Jr.A out west...real soap opera.

I think the CHL should make that illegal......make it so they have to try to trade them at least.........they could be killing any chance at a pro career he might have.........they don't want it to come back and haunt them, but they could be messing up the rest of his life.

Like I said on the Moose board, I'm sure he could successfully fight it out with the WHL, but with only 3 months left in his junior career, what would he actually win? It's really strange that the league suspended him right before the trade deadline, because in one of the articles I read before he was suspended, there's a quote from the VP of the WHL saying as far as he's concerned, Slade can sign with any Jr A team he wants.

Playing 3 months in Jr.A will mess up the rest of his life? Would it be better for your career to disappear in Jr. A, or go on to play in the finals on a contender of the WHL?

He was never drafted and is 0-2-0 in the Junior A league thus far after his first weekend, with a 3-1 loss to the Restigouche Tigers, and a 6-3 loss to the Amherst Ramblers.
Word on the street is the kid has a real attitude issue, especially playing on 5 teams from 2002-2006. I might make the trip into Moncton on the 22nd to see him in Action again.

I know one scout that don't know him...........he was never drafted..... ;D ;D For the others that caught this, remember when Billy makes a mistake where he looks like he knows what he's talking about, but really don't......make sure you quote him so he can't delete his post later....... ;D

He was invited to New Jersey camp and has been in the WHL for 3+ years, if somebody wants to give him a chance I don't think 3 months in Jr.A will change that. From what I heard, his attitude moreso than being seen by scouts is the problem

Since we're talking jrA goalies, does anybody know if Kirk Rafuse of the truro bearcats is drafted by a major junior team?
I believe he's only 16 and apparently has been playing some great hockey since their starter got hurt.....but it's hard to say how good he is....IMO Jr.A is nowhere near the caliber it was 5-6 years ago.
With the Q getting weaker and weaker in nets I wouldn't mind seeing this kid get a shot...even tho we have Riopel as a starter, its never bad to have two good goalies.
