Something to talk about on a slow day ... the Cats have the rights to a number of players who appear to be pursuing or considering US options, including Danis-Pepin, Brian Strait, Zach Sill, Jimmy Hayes, Tommy Cross, John Heffernan, and Alexi Pianosi. There appears to be varying degrees of likeliness that any of these guys could wind up with the Cats.
So, in your opinions, which of these players are most desirable, and/or most likely to report to the Cats?
I would rank them as follows:
1) Jimmy Hayes, F, touted as a potential 1st rounder in 2007 NHL draft, we would have him for three years.
2) Tommy Cross, D, touted as the best American available in last year's Q draft, went unselected. Offensive defenseman we would have for 3 years minimum.
3) Brian Strait, D, solid stay at home guy, NHL 2nd round pick, 18 year old, could probably play lots of minutes right away. Might not be around anymore by the time we are a contender again...
4) Alexi Pianosi, D, 17 year old who would have went earlier than the 5th round had there not been NCAA rumours ... I think he is our best bet to report this year, some have called him the next James Sanford.
5) Simon Danis-Pepin, D, would realistically only play two seasons in the Q, and is a work in progress due to his size... don't get me wrong, he could help our team, but probably less than the aforementioned guys..
6) John Heffernan, a 17 year old US forward, good size, don't know much about him...
7) Zach Sill, sounds like he was a disappointment as a 17 year old rookie in Jr A, probably wouldn't help us much...
