Since it is a slow newsday, thought it would be fun to speculate on who Torchetti might hire as an assistant coach ... here are some names with Maritime connections who have played for or with Torchetti in the past, this may serve as a good starting point since it seems head coaches often hire guys they are familiar with to be their assistant.
John LeBlanc - former head coach of Campbellton Tigers Jr A, played for Torchetti in Fort Wayne
Shawn Evans - also played for Torchetti in Fort Wayne, currently coach/GM of Truro in MJAHL
Guy Dupuis - Memramcook native, nearing the end of his pro hockey career, may be an opportunity to move into a coaching role near home, played for Torchetti in Fort Wayne.
Anybody here any actual rumours or have other names to throw in the ring?

Hire Larue! ;D
You put up some interesting names up there.
I would add Kevin Gaudet in the mix. He mentioned his interest in coming back home. He has lots of coaching experience. However, I'm not sure he would be interested in an assistant coach position.

Very good topic. I can't add anything but I certainly am interested in what you guys come up with.

I hope we can land a more experienced #1 assistant than a young high school coach - perhaps he would fit in as a second assistant (maybe even part time like Don LeBlanc was..). With Torchetti filling the dual role of coach and GM, I think we need a strong second in command who can take the lead for certain areas of the game to free up some of Torchetti's time for GM duties... Perhaps a guy like Shawn MacKenzie would be a good fit?

How is Torchetti's French? I suspect it isn't that great, if at all existant (correct me if I am wrong as I am just basing this on where he is from and where he has played/coached). If not, I would think he would try and get someone who is bilingual.

I'm with dman on this one (dammit, I knew I should've posted this before I went to lunch...), since Torchetti is more than likely lacking in the area of French language having a strong bilingual assistant is a must. We could make due to a 2nd tier assistant but with the coach also the Director of Hockey Operations *cough* GM *cough* we need a strong who is strong technically and is good with communicating.
I would also prefer a guy who has a background from Quebec, only so that the comfort level of players from Quebec is not diminished. Anybody from Quebec MAAA that we could pluck?

I also remember that coach a couple of years back who came to be an assistant to Larue when he took over for Coolen. I think his name was Liboiron. All the comments I heard were that the players really liked him and that he was a good communicator. He had a background in education and was a good teacher.

Maybe John Chabot would like to move up to a team that could give him more opportunities ... he'd make a good assistant.

I heard Nolan and Flynn will be back cause Nolan changed the toilet paper in the dressing room (1 ply Cottonelle to 2 ply Royale) without Wang's approval.

Ricky Jacob and Troy Dumville are 2 more candidates, though Troy is running the Beavers now, President, Gm and coach.

What about Danny Dupont? I believe he played for the Cats (Alpines??), was an assistant in the Q (R-N??), and was head coach of West Island MAAA last season...

Actually Campbellton announced this week that John Paris Jr. is taking over as GM / Head coach of the Tigers
