Why did Patrice Cormier slip to number 5? I am quite suprised by this. I did think there was a chance that Cornet would be taken 2nd, but i figured if that happened then Cormier would have been an automatic #3. I know that Victoriaville was thin on goaltending behind Blanchard, but couldnt they have found a good goalie later in the draft instead of taking Poulin #3. I do understand Doyle at #4 going to the Rocket since he is from the island, although i dont know if he is a better player than Cormier. I wonder if he gave teams the idea that he wasnt sure if he would report.

Victoriaville and PEI probably were not willing to get into a ransom deal to get Cormier to report ... so they went with other more certain options.
Now that he dropped to 5th Doris can say "you aren't 1st overall ... you aren't worth a big package".

I heard it as well - but it very well could be that he mispoke. His mother tongue is French and he could very well struggle at speaking English. Especially during times that he is nervous. I've never been drafted by a Q team, but I would bet he was nervous as hell.

The thing he misses though is that Rimouski picked 4 players in the 1st round and if one doesn't show up its not such a big deal to them. If I was Rimouski I'd tell him to show up at camp ... try to earn a spot ... so he can get his $30 a week and start earning his Q eductaion money ... IF he can make the team. And then never speak to him again until he shows up. I don't think NCAA is an option he cares to follow ... its just a bluff.
